Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Underwriter II to join our health insurance team. The ideal candidate will have strong underwriting experience and a deep understanding of risk assessment, with the ability to make sound decisions and balance risk with profitability. This role requires advanced knowledge of health insurance products, analytical skills, and the ability to manage more complex underwriting tasks with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and assess health insurance applications, including complex cases, to determine eligibility, coverage, and pricing.
- Analyze medical history, demographic data, and other key information to assess risk, ensure accurate policy pricing, and maintain company profitability.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., sales, customer service, claims) to ensure underwriting decisions align with company goals and guidelines.
- Utilize advanced underwriting software and tools to process, track, and report on applications.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of health insurance products, guidelines, and industry regulations to make informed decisions.
- Communicate underwriting decisions, including detailed rationale, to internal teams and external clients, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior underwriting team members, sharing expertise and best practices.
- Regularly review and adhere to federal and state regulations, ensuring all underwriting practices comply with applicable laws.
- Monitor ongoing policyholder risk profiles and recommend adjustments or follow-ups as necessary.
- Support senior underwriters and management in developing strategies to manage portfolio risk and profitability.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and analysis related to underwriting performance and trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business, healthcare, or related field.
- Minimum of [X] years of experience in health insurance underwriting or a related field.
- Proven expertise in health insurance products, risk assessment, and underwriting processes.

- Experience in underwriting large or complex health insurance cases, such as group policies or high-risk individuals.
- In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations governing health insurance products.
- Strong leadership or mentoring abilities, with a focus on team development.
