Come be a part of an impact-driven company committed to sustainable investment management. As a Senior ESG Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our client's investment decisions, ensuring they align with our strong commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
Responsibilities:
Support the investment teams in managing environmental and social risks throughout the investment cycle, including:
- E&S screening of potential investments based on funds' criteria and risk guidelines
- Conducting comprehensive due diligence (including managing external consultants)
- Negotiating impactful action plans as needed
- Preparing E&S memos to advise investment decisions
- Monitoring and reporting on E&S performance of investees and fund portfolios
- Improve Environmental and Social Management Systems for fundsbased on experience and best practices.
- Develop ESG frameworks for new fund mandates.
- Engage in technical and policy-level discussions on impact and sustainability issues with internal and external stakeholders, including investor relations presentations, reports, and regulatory disclosures.
- Support strategic discussions, lead research on selected topics, and contribute to shaping the company's impact and sustainability approach, capabilities, and track record.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- University degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, economics, development finance, or related field.
- Professional experience in E&S auditing, ESIA, E&S risk management, or similar work in consulting, investment, or development finance sectors, with familiarity in asset classes like project finance, corporate lending, green bonds, and investment via local financial institutions.
- In-depth knowledge of international E&S norms, particularly IFC Performance Standards, and familiarity with E&S policies and procedures of development finance institutions like IFC, EBRD, EIB, due diligence, and materiality frameworks.
- Specialized technical expertise in one or more of the following subjects: supply chains, human rights, labour standards, biodiversity, climate change, circular economy, and diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrates exceptional analytical acumen and meticulousness, capable of deriving actionable insights and practical recommendations for decision-makers.
- Possesses persuasive communication abilities, adept at crafting compelling written content and delivering impactful presentations, with experience in problem-solving and negotiating.
- Fluent in English with outstanding language proficiency; familiarity with other languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic) is advantageous for operating within the company's markets.
